Special Section | The 4 Pillars of Collaboration

Jamespot is pleased to introduce you to the 4 pillars of collaboration through a unique section, which will be released throughout the month of February! 4 collaborative tools that have proven themselves for 4 different ways to collaborate: Enterprise Social Network, Team Messaging, Intranet and Digital Workplace.

Choosing your collaborative tool for your organization is, often, not a piece of cake for those who have to make this choice. There are many software publishers, and the tools, features and uses proposed by them are even more so. All this makes understanding the collaborative tools market difficult and the choice of organizations all the more complex.

In order to help you to see more clearly, Jamespot has decided to release something special: a section unique composed of four articles that will be published throughout the month of February! One article for each of the 4 collaborative tools that we will present you in this exceptional dossier:

But before we embark together on this great adventure and dissect the strengths and weaknesses of these pillars of collaboration, we thought that a quick tour of presentation of each tool wouldn't be too much to ask for. A way to make sure that everyone gets off on the right foot before the big jump and knows the basics of each tool.

Ready for presentations? 😁

Let's go! 😄

Team Messaging: The Collaboration Fast Food

The first advantage of the Team Messaging is that everything there is to understand is included in its name. Team Messaging allows to exchange messages, files and documents with one or more people in real time via conversation channels. With team messaging, communication is immediate and uncompromising! ✊ Need a document? Its just left! Need to ask a colleague how a project is going? Un message is wrote in few seconds!

Team messaging is also very fast in its deployment and appropriation because of it reputation is already built in the public world (WhatsApp’s, does that mean anything to you?).

Its biggest problem? Its inability to bring employees together under a unified and smooth communication. 🙂

Intranet: the oldest of collaborative tool

Do we really still need to present it? The intranet is the one that laid the foundations for collaborative tools in companies. A single information space for all employees, centralized information, and there you have it. Having an intranet means making sure that ALL your employees have all the information they need. No need to go somewhere else: all the information you need is already in the intranet. 😉

While this tool has no competitors when it comes to unify the communication of an organization under a common banner, it is far for being first when it comes to collaboration. Indeed, even if it can offer many collaborative features to its users, the purpose of the Intranet revolves essentially around information sharing. Information that are more often shares by the top management than by the final users, which discourages sharing and the exchanges within the organization.

Enterprise Social Network: the brasserie of collaborative work

With an Enterprise Social Network (also called ESN in short), we are starting to get to the heart of the matter: collaboration! The Enterprise Social Network is in a way the best of Intranet and Team Messaging. The tool is based on a system of groups or communities. Each group corresponds to one of the aspects the user professional life: its department, a project he has to carry out with his team, a group for exchanging on how to make pancakes (the most important group, you will agree 😍).

The ESN has a flow that includes the activity of all the groups you belong to, as well as a… Team Messaging! In short, the Enterprise Social Network allows you to communicate in 3 different ways: with one of your collaborators (team messaging), with your team (Team Messaging or the dedicated group to it) or with all your collaborators in same time (if they are in the group to make pancakes for examples 😉).

Digital Workplace: a paradise for collaboration

Let’s finish our quick overview of the 4 pillars of collaboration with the biggest of them. Quite a piece indeed that the Digital Workplace. It's the most recent of the 4 collaborative tools we've just seen and without a doubt the most complex to deploy. Digital Workplace is about unifying all your tools and software is a single digital space.

Warning: using 10 different tools doesn’t mean you are using a Digital Workplace (it would be too easy 😉)! Your tools need to be centralized so that you don't need to go out of one to use the other. The advantage of this tool? 🤔 Everyone has everything they need to collaborate and move forward in their daily missions. The disadvantage? It is long and difficult to create such a workspace from a technical point of view (your developers will have work to do) not to mention the financial cost, which is much higher than for the tools seen previously and which could be a real obstacle for many organizations. 💰

We have prepared a special section dedicated to 4 collaborative tools that are now popular with organizations: Team Messaging, Intranet, Enterprise Social Network and Digital Workplace.

To conclude

We hope that you enjoyed this quick tour presenting these 4 collaborative tools! As we mentioned it earlier, this article is just introduction to or upcoming file, which is intended to give you the basis to better understand it and all the elements that will compose it (in case you needed it of course 😉.)

Stay tuned because the first article of the dossier will soon be available on our blog and it will be dedicated... to the famous team messaging! 💬🤩

See you soon! 😄
